SCO-Special Working Group on Poverty Reduction (SWG) Webinar.

The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety (PA&SS), Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in its capacity as Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) - Special Working Group on Poverty Reduction (SWG), convened a webinar on “Building Climate-Resilient Social Safety Nets: Protecting Vulnerable Populations from Climate Shocks in SCO Member States” on 22nd October 2025.
Secretary PA&SS, Mr. Navid Ahmed Shaikh, in his keynote address, emphasized the urgent need for adaptive social protection systems, highlighting the AAA Framework—Anticipate, Absorb, and Adapt—as essential for safeguarding vulnerable communities from climate-induced shocks such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves.
Delegates from SCO Member States exchanged experiences, policy measures, and best practices aimed at strengthening social safety nets and reducing poverty amid rising climate risks. The webinar reaffirmed the importance of regional cooperation and knowledge-sharing in building resilience and protecting vulnerable populations across the SCO region.
